Georgia Guard Insurance Trust Funds $56,000 in 2017 Scholarships

40 Students Awarded Scholarships this Year

Rome, Ga. (June 14, 2017) – The Georgia Guard Insurance Trust (GGIT) announced on Saturday, June 3, at the Georgia Joint Officers and Enlisted Associations Conference in Stone Mountain, Ga., that it has awarded 40 students a combined total of $56,000 in educational scholarships this year.

The GGIT Scholarship Fund – sponsored by the National Guard Association of Georgia (NGAGA) and the Enlisted Association of the National Guard of Georgia (EANGGA) – began in 1994. It awards up to 10 $3,000.00 scholarships per year, with the potential of awarding additional $1,000.00 scholarships, pending availability of funds. In its 23 years, the scholarship fund has awarded a total of $657,100 to help fund the college education of more than 260 students.

To apply, one must be a policyholder of GGIT, or a spouse, child or grandchild of the policyholder. The policyholder with GGIT must also be a current member of the NGAGA or EANGGA.

“The Georgia Guard Insurance Trust is a nonprofit that exists solely to serve Guard members and their families,” said BG (Ret.) Marshall Kennemer, GGIT Administrator. “We are honored to have the opportunity to give back through this scholarship program and promote education.”

The main function of GGIT is to offer group term life insurance to members of the Georgia National Guard, their spouses and dependent children. Death claims are paid in full to the beneficiary of the insured within 24 hours of notification, with no immediate requirement to present a death certificate. For new Army and Air National Guard recruits who opt to receive it, GGIT provides $10,000 of life insurance for 12 months at no cost.

For more information about GGIT, visit www.ggit.org. To learn more about NGAGA or EANGGA memberships, visit www.ngaga.org or www.eangga.com, respectively.
